For the last 4 years, our New Year's Eve tradition has been a surf & turf supper. It started when Will was 6 months old and it was just the two of us for a romantic dinner. The 2nd year we invited our neighbors (the Hines') and our friends the Goguens to join us. The 3rd year, the Hines' hosted the event. Last year we had a big old time at our place with the Hines', Goguens, Nitsche's and another couple from the neighborhood. It was the perfect setup...we provided the "turf" (a huge beef tenderloin) and everyone brings their "surf" of choice (shrimp, lobster tails, bacon wrapped scallops, etc) as well as an appetizer, side or dessert. We feed the kids first and put them to bed. Last year everyone was out by 9pm...a HUGE victory, considering there were 7 kids! We ate around 9:30pm and danced the night away on our make shift dance floor in the living room.
So, we were set for the annual Steffen Surf & Turf festivities again this year. It was going to be great...us and 4 other families, lots of food, drinks and fun. But....we got invaded by the stomach bug at the beginning of the week. Yup. Nothing puts a damper on hosting a party like the stomach bug does. First Scott on Monday, then Nic on Tuesday and Alex on Wednesday. So far Will seems to have dodged it. So, the party never happened. Needless to say the tenderloin's in the freezer and we'll have to delay the festivities maybe until Super Bowl.
Last night was the 10 year anniversary of Scott's proposal in Central Park. As much as I wanted to enjoy our own little festivities, I couldn't. I was in bed by 10pm and Scott barely managed to stay awake for Dick Clark. Man, we're getting old. Let's hope we're all healthy for next New Years.
On a happier note, I talked with Will about resolutions this morning over breakfast. He's decided he wants to spend more time playing outside in 2009 and promises to be nicer to Alex. I'm going to work on being more "Green"/environmentally conscious and complete a triathlon. Scott had to work today, so no word yet on his resolution. He's not one to share anyway....if he did, he knows that I'd be holding him accountable! He knows me too well!

That stinks your party had to be canceled. I'm sorry that you guys got sick. We were also "fortunate" enough to catch the stomach virus over here. Ty got it, Rick had it while we were in NY (he then passed it to his mom) and I got in on Tuesday. We also had a very tame New Year's Eve. I went to bed at 9:30pm as I was still drained from having the virus. Will has very sweet resolutions. :-)
Lucia's party was canceled too because they all came down with a stomach virus. Man, it's really making the rounds! Our New Year's Eve was totally lame. I put the kids to bed at 7:00 and Brian was passed out on the couch sick as a dog. There's always nexy year right? :)
