Weekend on Hilton Head Island

This past weekend, we took a road trip to Hilton Head Island. HHI is our favorite beach spot and Scott and I hope one day to retire there (with a cottage on the south shore of Nova Scotia too). It was the last weekend before the "high season" rates kick in for summer, so it seemed the perfect excuse to go. Each visit, we stay at the South Beach Inn and LOVE it! The location is ideal for families with young kids. There's lots to do, a good mix of restaurants, an ice cream shop, bike rentals, a clown there nightly, a guy playing music and the Salty Dog bar/cafe is right there.


We each put together a list of a couple things we each wanted to do over the weekend, and we fit them all in! Will wanted to rent bikes, play in the pool, get a "skim" board and hit the beach. The bikes were definitely a highlight for everyone. Will & Scott had a "tag-along" bike (see pics below) while I took Alex in a bike trailer. Will was nervous at first, but by the end he was showing off by riding with no hands. The skim board was a hit too, although I think it'll be at least next summer before any of us really have a good handle on how to do it! My request was breakfast at this cute little bakery called Signe's. They make award winning blackberry french toast (YUM!) ...and anyone who knows me, knows I'm a sucker for things that win awards! Scott found out about this find on the Food Network. It was one of Rachel Ray's spots when she visited the island. Scott's pick for the weekend was Sunday brunch at this Cajun dive (and I use the term affectionately) called Johnny B's. I was pretty impressed with my crawfish omelette!


Overall, it was a great weekend. Good weather, great food and some quality family time.
