More festivities at the Steffen household this week! On Saturday we headed up to Raleigh to visit some good friends and their new baby. Since Sunday was Will's 5th birthday, we made a slight detour to the Crabtree Valley Mall so that he could spend his Lego giftcard. Armed with a large 444-piece rescue boat we headed to our friends' house to check it all out. We enjoyed good food, drinks and conversation catching up with Dave & Tracey. It's been too long. To try and avoid waiting this long to get together again, we scheduled a weekend for them to come down to Charlotte in August.
After breakfast on Sunday, we hit the road. With it being Father's Day AND Will's birthday we had lots of celebrating to do. Will & Scott had created a "dream dinner" of sorts and I needed to get busy. Will ordered crab legs for supper and peach cobbler for dessert in lieu of birthday cake. Scott added steak & ribs to the list. I didn't realize how much work peach cobbler is, but it turned out great and during the process I got over my fear of making pastry.
Mum, Dad and Tim came over to join in the festivities and we had a huge feed. All the food was delish but when we ranked it all, the dry rub cedar plank ribs won by a mile. Here's Scott tending the grill (a very serious hobby), Will showing Grandpa how to eat crab legs and Alex chowing down on the ribs:
The boys loved playing firetrucks with their birthday gifts from Uncle Tim & Aunt Robin and Will took a spin at the Frisbee Golf game from Grandma & Grandpa. We hit the lake last night so that we could have a go on Will's new 2-person tube. Will and I had a blast!! We're both sore and tired today, but we'll be ready to do it all again by the time the weekend rolls around. Alex sat on the tube, but got a bit scared so we'll wait until next year to try again. Now we just have to get Scott out there...maybe once I get a little better at driving the boat.
