This fall has been our intro to organized sports...Will's playing soccer. During the summer, he did the Lil' Kickers program at Sports Connection to learn the basics. When the session was over and we talked about playing a fall sport he said (without hesitation) "I want to play soccer outside on a team with a jersey". OK then. So, he's playing in an under 6 league near the house. He's the second youngest on the team but he's hanging in there. Most of the kids are 5 and he sees them scoring most of the goals. It's great because they don't keep score so that helps with the message that it's all about having fun, not winning. The coach is GREAT about reinforcing this message too. But each week he says "Mum, I didn't score any goals in the game" and I keep reminding him to keep trying and maybe he'll score one in the next game. He seems to enjoy it regardless; although he's a chatterbox -like his mum- and is often chatting with his friends (or in the case of last Saturday, doing summersaults) in the middle of the field.
