Last Friday, we hit the road for spring break. With Alex turning 3 in a few months we decided to make the trip to Disney now while he was still free. We took Will exactly three years ago right before his birthday and it worked out well.
Overall, it was a great vacation. The parks were busy but not insane. We made good use of the Fast Pass and the child swap option and didn't ride on anything that had more than a 20 minute wait. Alex loved the parades and meeting characters and Will loved any rides where you got wet.
After spending the week at Disney, I learned three new things:
1. Don't underestimate the value in investing in a $3 bad of Mickey Mouse gummies as incentive to get your son to pee. After countless unproductive trips to the potty (and an accident that's imminent) we bought a bag, stood outside the bathrooms and each of us...except for Alex...ate a gummy and commented on how good they were. Alex then turned and dashed into the bathroom, did his business, washed his hands and ran out to collect his gummy. Success!
2. Consider planning your vacation using Hotwire and Priceline. We stayed in 3 different hotels during the week, two thanks to Priceline and one from Hotwire. Priceline was awesome, Hotwire was average. Both our Priceline hotels were resorts (both were between 3.5 and 4 stars) and had multiple pools, waterslides, kids entertainment, etc. and we paid well under $100 a night. Kudos to my price-conscious husband for doing his bidding research and bidding low! Sure it's a pain in the butt to switch hotels, but to save over $100/night compared to staying on Disney property during peak season it was well worth it!
3. Know how your kids handle lack of sleep from being on vacation. Will's like me and gets cranky, meanwhile Alex gets hyper...sings, dances, runs and acts crazy. But, like Scott pointed out at least it's better than having two cranky kids!
