Family Genes

A few weeks ago, Will came from from school all disappointed. His "special" class that day was Art. At the end of each special class (art, PE, computers, music, etc) the teacher picks a student to receive a wolf paw. The school's mascot is a wolf, and the students collect wolf paws on their name tags. Each week the principal puts the names of the kids who earned wolf paws into a drawing for a prize. Will was disappointed that he never gets the wolf paw in Art. It seems that the Art teacher walks around at the end of class and selects the student with the best artwork as the wolf paw recipient. So, we sat down and talked about family genes.

We talked about his blue eyes from me, his hockey skills from Dad and his interest in music from Scott's Mom and my Dad. As far back as I could think (on both sides of the family) there are NO Art genes to be found. So, I encouraged him to work with the genes he's got and keep trying hard in Art.
Both Scott and I are numbers people...not many creative bones in our bodies. Will's turning into a numbers guy too. He'd much rather do his math homework instead of his writing homework. So, I decided to introduce him to solitaire. His Great Gran is a real card shark, so at least he's got some card-playing genes to work with! I found the rules for a version of solitaire that I used to play as a kid. It was classified as "easy to play" and has a 1 in 5 chance of winning. Perfect for Will!

He's been playing almost every day and seems to really enjoy it. I just hope he's not hitting
the blackjack tables any time soon!

PS- Don't mind the green hoodie...he seems to think that if you've got a hood, you need to be wearing it!
