Happy (but soggy) Halloween

This year's Halloween will be one to remember. The forecast called for 60% chance of rain for Saturday afternoon/evening so we decided to go Trick or Treating at the local shopping center between 11-2pm. That way, even if it poured the boys would still have their candy and costume fix for the year. It turned out to be a smart move.

Like every year, we meet at the park in our neighborhood at 6pm and do a quick costume parade before hitting the houses. Well, the heavens opened just as we arrived at the park, so after 2 minutes of standing in the rain we all decided to skip the parade and get down to business. The first four houses we hit it poured. We were soaked. I tried to remind myself that as long as the kids were having fun, it didn't matter. But it was miserable. On the plus side, it was warm...around 65 degrees. Fortunately by the 6th or 7th house it switched to a light drizzle. Much better. After about an hour the boys were dragging their bags and starting to fade. They were more interested in getting home and dumping out their candy. We stopped at the neighbors house to dry off around their fire pit for and have a drink, hotdog and some s'mores. By the time we got home it was 8:30pm and the boys were jacked up on sugar so bedtime was a bit of a struggle. Overall, it was a fun night. We treated ourselves to post-breakfast candy on Sunday and Monday. But, by Monday night the party was over.

The kids' dentists do a "Candy Buy Back" program where you can "sell" back your candy for $1/Lb. So the boys picked through their piles, kept the best stuff and we gave the rest away. They each got $3 and now we're just left with a small Ziploc bag of treats. Not bad! Now, if only I could stop snacking on it during naptime!!
