My Little Waterbaby

A few weeks ago we bought Will a set of "learn-to-water ski" skis. After nearly 2 whole weeks of playing "water skiing" with Alex on the carpet at home we finally got out on the boat to give them a try. It was a Tuesday night, so the lake was quiet with very little boat traffic. On our way back to the marina we found a little beach area so that he could give the skis a try. I honestly didn't expect him to get up on the first try and expected it to be a "work-in-progress" experience. So, I get him set up on the beach and Scott starts driving slowly. I remind Will to bend his knees and lean back. Scott picks up more speed and Will's up!! And he stays up!! He went a good 300 meters before he fell. My instinct was to start swimming from the shore to get him but I soon realize it's going to take me about 5 minutes to get there. Scott loops back in the boat and gets him no problem. I think we were both so surprised that he got up on his first try that we hadn't even think about what to do when he drops. We were both so proud of him and I think he was pretty tickled himself. Although, watching my 5-year old bobbing up and down in his life jacket in the middle of the main channel is probably not my best parenting moment.

With all the surprise of Will getting up on the skis, I forgot to give anyone the camera to take pictures. So, these pics are from Will's second ski session this past weekend. Now we just have to figure out how to even out the skis on the water....maybe more speed?
