Back in January, Scott stunned me by signing up for a triathlon. I was so (pleasantly) surprised, but shocked. Scott's a hockey player. He plays hockey...that's all. Oh, and he reluctantly runs the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure with me each year. Since becoming a mom my definition of sexy has always been a guy running and pushing a jogging stroller...if it's a double one I nearly start drooling. I think that's the only reason he runs with me once a year (with the stroller)...because he knows I love it.
Now...back to the triathlon. He started training seriously 2 or 3 months ago and by the time race day came around he was doing "mini-triathlon" training on his lunch hour. A 30 min swim, a 30 min cycle class and a 5k run. Not bad, eh?
So, the race was this Saturday. As he says, he had 3 goals:
1) not to drown
2) to finish the race
3) not to be last.
Well, he accomplished all 3 and then some. The swim was tough (750m open water), the bike was good...he passed 4 or 5 riders, and the run was hilly and brutal. But he did it. And...he hasn't ruled out doing another one! His boss is a triathlon junkie and is training for an Ironman next year, so Scott's got the constant triathlon influence at work. But for now, he's back to enjoying his beer and chicken wings and I couldn't be more proud!!
Getting ready to start...in the blue tanktop
