Five...going on fifteen

This weekend we hit the end-of-season sales at a couple of sports stores...and Will scored big at both. At our first stop (REI) we got Will a brand new pair of Keen sandals for $18 (less than half price) and he loves them, you can tell he feels like a big kid. Our second stop was the tent sale at Dick's Sporting Goods where we found kid's beginner water skis for $30 (regularly $100). Scott had been thinking about getting a pair for Will and of course Will's was all over the idea of learning to water ski. We've seen several young kids skiing on the lake and have been chatting with a few parents about when to start Will skiing.

We often spend our Friday nights out on the lake watching the Carolina Ski Team show (complete with pyramids and ramps for jumps). Some of the kids doing the tricks are pretty young, so I think Will's intrigued by it. But, he's developing his cool factor lately, and tries really hard not to let on that he's excited by anything.

After the sports stores, we head for lunch. While we're eating, Will asks in a very low key tone:

"Mum....when is the next time we'll be going out on the boat?".
I said "Why, are you excited to try the skis?"
"No, I really want to go swimming"
I said "Don't you want to try the skis?....it's OK to be excited about trying your new skis."
"No, I just really want to go swimming"

Then, we get home and head upstairs for rest/nap and he says:

"We better bring the skis in from the car"
I said "Why don't we leave them in the car so they'll be ready to go when we head out on the boat this week?"
Scott said "Do you want them in your room to play with during rest?"
Will gets angry (like we're on to him) saying "Stop making fun of me!"
I said "Buddy, we're not making fun of you. We're just know you're excited. We're excited about the skis too".
Here's a picture of Will trying out his new water skis. Despite what he says, you can see the excitement all over his face! Geesh...what is it with boys and hiding their emotions!!

too cute! although it's not just boys and their emotions; must be 5 year olds, as Peyton does the same thing sometimes, stomping her foot down when she thinks we're making fun of her! (we bought her pink Keens a few mos. ago and she loves them - she matches Mommy!)
