Halloween Karma

Maybe it's the witches and ghosts at work, but this weekend brought me a good dose of Halloween karma. I've never been one who's into really decorating the house for any type of holiday. Sure, there's a tree and holiday lights at Christmas and a carved pumpkin outside for Halloween, but that's about it. Since having kids, I HAVE gotten a bit better with the decorations....my sister in-law got my hooked on the idea of garland/lights on the staircase at Christmas and I now own a Halloween wreath for the front door. Maybe it's the Southern influence kicking in.

Last week, I was over at a neighbors house and she was decked out for Halloween. I was stunned when she said she'd really toned it down this year. I thought "to each, their own" and reminded myself that I just wasn't that kind of girl. Then it happened...not less than 3 days after visiting the neighbor's house the boys get a box in the mail from Aunt Donna and Uncle Ross. The box is jam packed with Halloween decorations. The boys (including Scott) are giddy with excitement and spend Friday night hanging up a full-length cardboard skeleton, a spider mobile, and a pumpkin/ghost banner. We've been taking turns trying on the Dracula cape. We've also got which and Frankenstein window clings on the office doors, we're eating Jello pumpkins for dessert and the boys are fighting over Alex's 5-pack of mini Halloween stuffed animals. When I saw how excited they got over the decorations, I dug out some other stuff that I'd been hiding...a mini flashing pumpkin and a plug-in Winnie the Pooh pumpkin for outside. When I was talking with another neighbor last week (before our suprise delivery arrived), she asked where she could buy "classy" Halloween decorations. I told her I didn't know there was such a thing. Isn't it all orange, plastic and tacky?

So, I'm here to say I'm a Halloween decoration convert. Yah, it's tacky but it's fun. Put it on the long list of things I swore I'd never do (before kids)....but now when I see how excited they get, I understand. Thanks Ross & Donna for showing me the light!!

I love this post...and can totally relate! Last year Jacob poored on the guilt about us not decorating for Halloween. Now we have a grave yard in the front yard! And, YES, it is totally tacky!

well, we usually have the scariest house on the block, but not this year. drew got out the stuff to put out and brody screamed terrified for half an hour. so we went out and got pumpkins, scarecrows and hay bales and we are having a "happy" halloween instead of a "spooky" halloween.
can't wait to see your scary house!!
