Today Alex and I went apple picking with a group of friends. We had the best time! It was a new orchard that we'd never been to before and they had lots of activities for the kids to do...learning about bees and honey, taking a hayride to a little petting zoo, checking out the pumpkin patch and best of all...picking our own apples right off the trees. The farm doesn't use any pesticides on their apples so we got the go-ahead to eat them while we picked.
For the boys' "after school snack" we melted caramels and made our own dipping sauce for the apple slices and now I've got homemade applesauce simmering on the stove. Peeling and coring the apples got a whole lot easier thanks to a super-cool countertop apple peeler from my friend Carol (an early Christmas present, since she's got a large surplus of them!)
